What we collect

If you subscribe to the Sunday Research Bundle, we collect your email address and subscription preferences.

If you send something to What's On Your Mind, we receive your email address, first name, recording and anything else you include in your message. A recording may contain your voice, image or other personal information you choose to provide.

Separately, the site uses Plausible Analytics to count visits and understand which pages and articles get read. Plausible is privacy-friendly and does not use cookies or collect personal data. We only see anonymous, aggregated traffic.

How we use it

Your email address and subscription preferences are used to manage and send the Sunday Research Bundle. Beehiiv processes this information on our behalf. We do not sell or rent the list or use it for unrelated purposes.

What you send to What's On Your Mind is used to run that part of the show. We receive your message, review it and decide whether to feature it. If we do, we may edit the recording for length or clarity. We may email you back if we need to check something with you. If your submission is selected, it appears on the show and on the Markets to Freedom channels. We identify you by your first name only. If we do not feature your submission, we delete it within 90 days. If we feature it, we keep the submission and permission record while the content remains published. After its final removal, we retain only the minimum permission record for six years.

Analytics data is used to understand what is working and what is not, so the show and the writing can be made better over time.

Processors we use

These are the third-party services that handle parts of our infrastructure. Each one has its own privacy practices, which you can read on their sites.

• Vercel. Hosting the site. Sees IP addresses and request data as standard for any web host.
• Beehiiv. Email delivery for the Sunday Research Bundle. Stores your email address and your subscription preferences.
• Google Workspace. Hosting the What's On Your Mind mailbox and storing messages and recordings sent to it.
• Plausible. Site analytics. Cookie-free, aggregated, no personal identifiers.
• Google Fonts. Serving the Playfair Display and Inter typefaces used across the site.
• YouTube. Where the show is hosted. This site links to YouTube. It does not embed a player, so nothing loads from YouTube unless you follow a link.

Legal basis

For the Sunday Research Bundle, we rely on your consent. You give it by signing up and you can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.

For What's On Your Mind, we rely on your consent to receive, review, edit and feature the recording. You give that consent by sending a recording after reading the permission statement on the What's On Your Mind page. You can withdraw consent for future use by emailing us. Withdrawal does not affect use that took place before it was withdrawn and we may not be able to remove material that has already been broadcast or republished by others.

We rely on legitimate interests to retain the minimum record needed to show what permission was given, when it was given and whether it was later withdrawn.

For analytics, we rely on legitimate interest. The data is aggregated and cookie-free and the purpose is product improvement.

Your rights under UK GDPR

Depending on the circumstances, your UK GDPR rights may include the right to:

• Ask what personal data we hold about you
• Ask us to correct inaccurate personal data
• Ask us to delete personal data
• Receive certain personal data in a portable format
• Object to or restrict certain uses of your personal data

Cookies

The site uses essential cookies only. We do not currently use analytics cookies. If we introduce non-essential cookies or similar technologies, we will provide information and obtain consent where required.

This site does not embed a YouTube player. Where we link to YouTube, nothing loads from YouTube until you follow the link. Anything YouTube does after that is governed by its own policies.
